The new Wathaurong Geelong Youth Hub combines learning with community support for the local Geelong Aboriginal community. The Facility provides an alternative model of education where young people can lean and be supported within a safe, supportive environment. Internally the project features a new centralized learning zone with play area, four sound proof counseling rooms, computer lab, two meeting room, breakout space, new reception, locker space new kitchen, a disabled bathroom and upgrade to the exiting amenities. Given the project’s emphasis on privacy and client confidentiality, minimizing sound transfer was essential. To address this critical design component, we utilized high-performance acoustic pinboard and insulation on walls and ceilings, effectively preventing sound migration between rooms. External works were aimed at fostering community interactions and respect for the local environment. The newly conceptualized landscape flourishes with features designed for both cultural recognition and recreation: a spacious outdoor deck for gatherings, a designated BBQ area, custom-crafted timber seating, and a basketball court. Given the site’s cultural significance to the Aboriginal community, URBN Group made it a priority to collaborate intimately with local elders. This partnership ensured that we not only preserved but also celebrated aspects of immense value to the Aboriginal heritage. Every decision, every move was made with deep respect and acknowledgment of the land’s rich history and the community’s sentiments We have delivered this project within a live environment. Our team showcased proficiency in delivering the project without causing disruptions to ongoing operations. We integrated construction activities, ensuring minimal disturbance while maintaining the site’s continuous functionality.
